Ash alarm?

So I came across the news that another monster of a volcano is showing off some suspicious activity and could potentially cause more trouble in Iceland than what Eyafjellalalalala (whatever the spelling, you know what I'm talking about!) did... and also for the rest of us on so many levels. Sure, I do care about the environmental consequences of such an eruption but quite frankly I am more concerned about being 'stuck under the ashes' during the festive season. I might be going a bit OTT while saying this, but the idea of organising a road trip home before Christmas instead of knocking myself out on wizzair.com has already struck my mind. Would be so much fun though, especially if I had the guts to bet on this actually happening around the said time and pre-order a ride! Mmmmyeah... I'll wait a bit longer and hold on to this thought..

(the article I'm referring to by the way..)

Our first anatomy test is coming up and I am currently making a plan and tactic for how I'm going to learn all the bones (from the atlas to the phalanges), their joints and ligaments in one week (!) Let's see if a good night's sleep can do the trick. Maybe I'll absorb the material better if I put a relevant book under my pillow... AAAhhhh, who am I really kidding?

Fresher's flu.

I soooo saw it coming! Now that the official freshers week is over along with the ridiculous month of partying,  I unsurprisingly managed to get a scratchy throat which I feel is going to get worse in a day or two. Staying alive after this past weekend is an accomplishment in itself considering the details which I will only share with anyone who cares to ask me personally. Might as well create a word document to send out :p Anyways, let me use Ann Cecilie's photo to show off the stylishness that was 'casino night':

Fredrik, Danielle, myself and Christian :)
This is one of the few photos I posed for as the beautiful heels I'm wearing killed me consecutively ever half an hour. I was much happier sitting in a corner enjoying drinks most of the night. Very impressed by everyone looking gorgeous in both dresses and suits though!

It was pouring down on Friday which I think was the catalyst of the cold/flu I'm developing. Rain along with some wind, open shoes which got my feet wet and a thin dress= pathology alert! And the day after I briefly attended the sports day to play "dødball" (imagine baseball with a few tweaks.. yeah, there you have it!), biked in the rain for a while and got ""baptised"" along with the rest of my class in the evening. I now realise it's too late to start taking cod liver oil supplements and protective vitamin C to boost my white cells. Bleh. Strepsils truskawkowy (strawberry flavoured- know your Polish!) will have to do along with kleenex and Olbas (which I'm running out of and would be eternally grateful for if someone in the UK could SEND SOME my way! *hint hint*)

I managed to switch my sports class today by the way which made me very happy. I seem to have missed (dis)organised team sports. Basketball was super fun!
The weather also changed its mood within the blink of an eye last week- no more shorts and 'lets go out and enjoy the sun in sandals and thin cardigans'-weather. To be honest this gives me the opportunity to use the majority of the clothes I brought over at the beginning of September which was mainly stockings and woollen items. I have also bought a new pair of winter-y footwear which I will show off soon. They're very pretty an even match my handbag ^_^ win!

Going back to revise my notes now. Must.stay.organised.!

A few ideas about nuns.

I don't know if this is a "I'm new in town so it's okay to be overly fascinated"-thing or just disrespectful. Just saying this to point out that I am indeed aware that some people might find this a bit rude or whatever. It's similar to "gul bil"/"yellow car" and me and Vaishi's "1/2/3"-game; whenever we see a nun we subtly hit/poke the other person. The one being poked is obviously gutted for not seeing the nun first and that's just about the entire gist of the game. Monks are less common, thus seeing one allows you to hit/poke twice. Poking with reference to a nun you saw while you were walking around on your own that nobody else had the chance to spot does not count and will result in giving the other players the chance to hit you back the same number of times that you hit them.  At the end of the day it's simply pointless yet entertaining. Why? No idea!

I guess other than that I have never seen as many nuns in my life makes me think about who these people are and what it is that they --do--. Seriously, what do nuns and monks do other than practising their religion and grow pea plants (referring to Gregor Mendel the biologist monk here...)?  What I do know is that they sure spend a lot of time eating ice cream because whenever I am out by the Wisla river or in Rynek I see several groups of 5-6 sisters walking in a line eating ice lollies (I wonder what they do instead during winter?). It's just something you don't see very often in the places I've lived in previously, what can I say?!

One day when I am a semi-fluent Polish speaker I am going to be all brave and ask a nun for directions or something stupid like what the time is. Once I am fluent I am contemplating whether or not to ask if a nun I meet on the street is would like to go for a coffee in between all her errands to tell me more about her life. Do nuns even drink coffee? Why do I keep thinking they've got such restricted and/or boring lives? I mean, I've seen nuns driving cars and a monk on a moped. I even found a monk to be quite attractive the other day (which is practically the same case as whenever you see a beautiful gay guy). Damn, this just makes me want to research the nun-lifestyle even more!

This is the exact image of what I might see on a sunny day in the streets of Kraków!
