Essential purchases & Copernica

I came back from a second hand booksale a few hours ago and have so far spent ~£20 on four books and a flashcard box. ...and tomorrow an older student is going to sell me an anatomy atlas as well which means I only need another condensed anatomy book for this semester. Feels like I've naiiiiiiiiiled it without having to break the bank with brand new books YAY!^^

Flat awesome's combined purchases today

Also I've meant to show off my latest gadget- which we were given at the orientation day- a USB stick with lots of important information about the school/classes/times/places/maps et cetera et cetera...

It's super authentic and useful at the same time and is even bound to a keychain! AAAAhh!

We have had our first embryology and anatomy classes and things are starting up nice and easy with basic development and anatomical positioning and movements. I have even done some reading on the bones of the head and vertebrae.

Before the booksale there was an hour long presentation of the international medical students' student union- aka Copernica, which is the organisers of our version of "freshers week" i.e. CoperniWeek (or CopernUKA in norwegian!) They organise activities (I think they mentioned 'party/partying/parties' >20 times- not sure how they do it..!) throughout the academic year and have a variety of clubs such as rowing, rugby, running, poker(nica!), swimming, cycling, yoga and even a (Coperni)choir that one can join. Tomorrow will be another epic day as I finish school at 9:30am (though start in 8 hours which is a little less amusing) and am planning on scanning through my books and going to the gym..And the evening will be spent crawling from a pub to another in groups which makes me think there's a type of competition involved too...There will be 2nd year students around  as well which sounds fun and I will probably get to meet my designated "godmother" for the year. Terrific!

The student union seems to be just as organised as the school in general (well except for the sports classes as I've mentioned earlier) with their lists, CoperniCard (discount card in shops around town), and academic portal++ and I am looking forward to taking part in all this --stuff-- that is being thrown at me. Who knows, maybe I'll join the choir!!? Apparently they only have two rehearsals a month and only practice intensively before concerts (i.e. probably the one concert before Christmas. haha.). Sounds like the most chilled group ever. And they obviously socialise over beer. Duh..

Oh, by the way, Copernica has made this super cool app for medical terms in polish which some of my friends have on their iPhones and this alone makes me want a smartphone (not available for androids yet though, which is a shame. It has translations of anatomical terms+++ and a voice that reads it out loud for the correct pronounciation!!!

The most random part is the "smalltalk" subsection which includes phrases like "I am a prince in the country I come from" and "could you please give me the recipe to these cupcakes? they taste delicious!"
Geesh, as you can see I'm having a blast. - and my parents are visiting in two weeks :D Hooray!

  4. I was thinking more of a samsung galaxy s2 but that is something that would definitely screw up my budget!

I've managed to de-code Anonymous #1's identity because she laughs like a crazy person, but unfortunately I didn't quite manage to figure you out, M!? Sure, be as anonymous as you like, just don't start stalking me. Now that would be creepy.
